Independent operator Surge Energy US Holdings was recently selected as an honoree for Houston Business Journal’s (HBJ’s) inaugural Innovation Awards. The award, which recognizes companies who demonstrate a culture of innovation and unconventional approaches to solving complex challenges, goes to Surge the same year the company drilled a record-setting lateral in the Permian basin.
In April, Surge subsidiary Moss Creek Resources reported drilling a Wolfcamp A well to a total measured depth of 24,592 ft. The well had a total vertical depth of 7,102 ft and a horizontal section out to 17,935 ft (3.4 miles), the longest known lateral length ever drilled in the Permian. The company drilled the well to TD in just 18 days, using conventional mud motor and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) technology.
Surge Energy and the other honorees will be featured in a special section of HBJ’s September 27th issue and feted at the Fast 100 and Innovation Awards event on September 26th.
EnergyMakers congratulates Surge and the other award recipients for their achievement and commitment to innovation. It will be interesting to see the production profile for this well, and resource use per barrel of oil produced… we hope Surge will keep us posted!
