Ground Water Protection Council
Digesting the great information exchange from GWPC’s Austin conference on UICs (Disposal Wells). Came away with a balanced perspective from operators and regulators including Tim Baker and Michael Teague with the Oklahoma Oil and Gas Commission, having very open and transparent exchanges with leading operators including Marathon, Anadarko, Chesapeake, Chevron, and others, along with some key insights into focus areas in 2017.
“Interesting Topics Mentioned:”
- Rall Walsh of Stanford University and his advances in predictive tools for seismicity
- Anna Mikulska of Rice University’s Baker Institute, and her analysis of proposed versus implemented state regulations, and the degree to which initiatives support recycling
- Rick McCurdy of Chesapeake, and his insightful understanding of the complexities of water treatment for reuse
- Michael Dunkel with CH2M, and his wrap-up of Oklahoma’s many water management initiatives and associated challenges, and points of intersection
Happy to report many of the hottest topics are those we are covering in some depth in our upcoming report, particularly with regards to interest in formation health and pressurization, and induced seismicity analysis and mitigation. Important to get these topics well understood in much awaited anticipation of a market uptick
